University of Chicago Class of 2025 reflects on diverse academic journeys

The University of Chicago's Class of 2025 is preparing for Convocation, reflecting on their diverse academic journeys. Students have engaged in varied experiences such as launching startups, working with underserved communities, and conducting innovative research.

Eshan Dosani, a first-generation college student graduating with majors in economics and political science, co-founded Perspectives Health, an automated medical note-taking startup. The company aims to reduce administrative burdens for behavioral health providers. Dosani has focused on addressing "deaths of despair" from drug overdoses and alcohol abuse. He conducted research on substance use disorders with Prof. Harold Pollack and founded the UChicago Harm Reduction Project.

Priya Gupta began her career as an emergency medical technician before shifting to social work due to systemic issues observed in healthcare. Graduating with a master's degree in social work from the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice, she will join the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Insurance Services Division as an administrative fellow.

Taryn Kim majored in public policy studies and sociology at UChicago. Her work included field research within Chicago Public Schools and internships with nonprofits like GirlForward. She plans to enter the nonprofit education sector before attending law school.

Denita Kiya pursued law school to apply "world-building" ideas and engage intellectually. As president of Impact Initiative, she fostered community service between UChicago Law School and South Side neighborhoods. After graduation, she will join Jones Day as an associate.

Pengju Li earned his Ph.D. from the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME), developing minimally invasive devices controlled by light for heart and brain functions. He will continue his research at Princeton University as a postdoctoral researcher.

George Rose co-founded Rise Reforming while studying molecular engineering at PME. The startup converts plastic waste into high-quality chemicals used globally by laboratories.

Victor Sosa described himself as a "shapeshifter," having worked across various sectors before attending Booth School of Business to focus on entrepreneurship. At Booth, he won the Kilts Center Product Challenge with strategic recommendations for Microsoft.

Walton Yan triple-majored in religious studies, art history, and Germanic studies at UChicago. His experience included a research trip funded by College fellowships to study Greek religious art firsthand among monks at Mount Athos.

These stories illustrate how UChicago students have applied their education to real-world challenges across different fields.
