Technology Solutions at the University of Illinois Chicago is observing Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October, emphasizing the importance of digital safety across the campus community.
The university's technology teams are actively working to protect the institution’s digital environment. Their efforts include blocking phishing scams and defending against network-based hacking attempts. Despite these measures, the university notes that cybercriminals are continually updating their tactics, making community vigilance crucial.
Common scams currently targeting members of the UIC community include pension-related fraud, deceptive requests for Duo two-factor authentication approvals, and messages containing malicious links. Technology Solutions encourages everyone to stay informed about these threats.
A feature article has been published by Technology Solutions that details common online scams and provides tips for safe online behavior. The article underscores that informed users play a key role in maintaining cybersecurity at the university.
Additionally, UIC has launched a campuswide student awareness campaign for October. Students are being taught how to identify cybersecurity threats and are invited to participate in the 2025 UIC Cybersecurity Awareness Quiz to assess their knowledge.
"Please help us promote a secure digital environment by encouraging students to participate and by staying vigilant online yourself. And remember — if you encounter any suspicious messages or activity, report them immediately to security@uic.edu," Technology Solutions said in a statement.
