The Chicago Blackhawks have signed goaltender Spencer Knight to a three-year contract extension, which will keep him with the team through the 2029-30 NHL season. The deal carries a salary cap hit of $5.83 million per year.
“After joining the team in March, Spencer quickly cemented himself as a crucial piece of our future,” said Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson. “A talented, young goaltender, he brings athleticism, sound positioning and a calm demeanor to his game, and we’re excited to watch Spencer continue to flourish in Chicago over the next four seasons.”
Knight, age 24, split his 2024-25 season between the Blackhawks and the Florida Panthers. He finished with a record of 17 wins, 16 losses, and three overtime losses. His save percentage was .902 and his goals-against average was 2.72. He also recorded two shutouts and set a new personal best with 38 appearances during the season.
Knight joined Chicago on March 1, 2025, in a trade that sent defenseman Seth Jones and a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft to Florida in exchange for Knight and a conditional first-round pick in the same draft. Knight made his debut for Chicago on March 3 against Los Angeles by stopping 41 of 42 shots.
Over his NHL career so far with both Chicago and Florida, Knight has played in 95 games with a record of 49-33-9, posting a goals-against average of 2.83 and a save percentage of .904 along with five shutouts. In addition to his time in the NHL, he spent three seasons playing for the Charlotte Checkers in the American Hockey League where he recorded eight shutouts across 58 games.
Before turning professional, Knight played two seasons at Boston College where he achieved several honors including NCAA Hockey East Player of the Year and Goaltender of the Year during the 2020-21 campaign. He was also named a Top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award that season.
Internationally, Knight helped Team USA win gold at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship while tying for most shutouts in that tournament. He also won silver medals at both the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship and the 2018 IIHF World U18 Championship as well as bronze at the latter event in 2019.
Knight was originally drafted by Florida as their first-round pick (13th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft.
