The Chicago Blackhawks have reached an agreement with Aidan Thompson on a two-year entry-level contract. The deal, which runs through the 2026-27 season, comes with a salary cap hit of $895,000. For the remainder of the ongoing season, Thompson will play with the Rockford IceHogs, the Blackhawks' affiliate in the American Hockey League, under a Professional Tryout Agreement.
Thompson, 23, recently finished an impressive season as an alternate captain with the University of Denver's hockey team, posting career highs in goals, assists, and points. His performance helped the team secure a spot in the Frozen Four for the second consecutive year. His 55 points ranked second in the NCAA, and he was among the top in assists and goals nationally.
A Colorado native, Thompson played a key role in the University of Denver's success in recent years, including their NCAA National Championship win in the previous season. Over three seasons with the university, he amassed 117 points in 120 games.
Thompson was drafted by the Blackhawks in 2022 as the 90th overall pick in the third round of the NHL Draft.
The official announcement came from the Chicago Blackhawks via their Twitter account.
