Annual Run for the Zoo returns to support wildlife conservation

Chicago residents are invited to participate in the 47th annual Run for the Zoo, scheduled for Sunday, June 8. This event supports wildlife conservation efforts at Lincoln Park Zoo and beyond. Participants of all skill levels can join either a 5K or 10K race, both certified by U.S.A. Track & Field. A special Kids’ Course is available for children aged 3 to 8.

The theme for this year's event is inspired by the pygmy hippopotamus, featuring zoo residents Annie and Pogo. Proceeds from the race will help maintain free access to Lincoln Park Zoo and support its animal care and conservation programs worldwide.

“Run for the Zoo is one of our favorite events of the year, because it brings together so many amazing animal lovers, runners, and zoo fans for a great morning of outdoor fun,” said Meg Hein, Events Manager. “Whether this is someone’s 20th Run or their first time hitting the pavement with us, we’re so grateful for everyone’s support of world-class animal care and global conservation.”

Participants will enjoy scenic routes through Lincoln Park Zoo with views of Lake Michigan and Chicago's skyline. Professional photos will be taken during the race and made available to participants afterward.

Registration includes a medal, post-race goodies, and an annual race shirt. Prices start at $52.99 for the 5K run/walk and $57.99 for the 10K run. The Wildlife Warrior package combines both races at $110.98, while entry to the Kids’ Course starts at $29.99. Virtual participation options are also available.

Lincoln Park Zoo members receive a discount on registration fees.
