The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce has recognized Killerspin and board member Robert Blackwell for a recent visit to Vatican City. During the visit, Blackwell presented a personalized Killerspin table and paddle set featuring the papal insignia. The meeting was intended to promote Killerspin’s mission, which encourages people to step away from screens and reconnect with each other through play.
Blackwell also presented a City of Chicago proclamation honoring Pope Leo XIV as the first American-born pontiff. This act represented both pride in Chicago and the city’s effort to foster international connections.
Killerspin, founded by Blackwell, is marking its 25th anniversary with an increased focus on social initiatives. The company has launched a program that provides opportunities for individuals with autism to join its sales force as agents, allowing them to earn income and develop skills.
Later this summer, Killerspin plans to partner with the Italian Table Tennis Federation for an event at the Vatican on August 29. The event will include a ping pong showcase featuring top players and a panel discussion on how digitization affects human interaction. Additional events are scheduled in cities worldwide, all aiming to highlight the importance of in-person connection as digital technology becomes more prevalent.
"The Chamber celebrates Robert Blackwell for his leadership, vision, and commitment to making a difference not only for Chicago businesses but for communities everywhere. His recent visit to the Vatican underscores a core Chicago value: using business as a force for good."
"Congratulations to Robert and the entire Killerspin team for demonstrating what it means to lead with purpose, innovation, and inclusion."
