Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize announces five finalists for 2025 award

At an event held at the Anahuacalli Museum in Mexico City, the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) announced its five finalists for the 2025 Americas Prize. The announcement was made by MCHAP Director Dirk Denison and 2025 MCHAP Jury Chair Maurice Cox.

The finalists include projects from Argentina, Canada, Mexico, and the United States. They are: Centro de Investigación Mar de Cortés by Tatiana Bilbao ESTUDIO in Mazatlán, Mexico; Clínica Veterinaria Guayaquil by adamo-faiden in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Ecoparque Bacalar by Colectivo C733 in Bacalar, Mexico; Pumphouse by 5468796 Architecture in Winnipeg, Canada; and Thaden School by Eskew Dumez Ripple, Marlon Blackwell Architects, and Andropogon Associates in Bentonville, Arkansas.

The prize recognizes outstanding architectural work completed between June 2022 and December 2023 across North, Central, or South America. The jury's selection process involved a comprehensive tour of project sites and discussions with authors and teams behind these works.

Maurice Cox chairs the jury that includes notable figures such as Giovanna Borasi from the Canadian Centre for Architecture and Gregg Pasquarelli of SHoP Architects. Other members are Mauricio Rocha from Taller | Mauricio Rocha and Sofia von Ellrichshausen of Pezo von Ellrichshausen.

Dirk Denison emphasized the educational aspect of the jury's journey: “The MCHAP jury trip is above all an opportunity for learning... This experience of exchange remains at the heart of the prize.” He also noted how this cycle’s finalists have been inspiring due to their inventive responses to social and environmental contexts.

The winning project will be announced on May 5 at a symposium hosted by Illinois Institute of Technology. The winners will receive $50,000 to fund research and publication along with recognition through various awards.

MCHAP was established by Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture in 2013 to celebrate architectural excellence throughout the Americas. The college itself has a strong tradition in interdisciplinary education within architecture fields.
