UIC highlights well-being resources available to students and staff

Karen Colley Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs | University Of Illinois At Chicago

As the new year and semester begin, the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) has reaffirmed its mission to foster an inclusive community. The university emphasizes its commitment to supporting students, faculty, and staff by providing various resources aimed at enhancing personal well-being, safety on campus, and academic experiences.

UIC offers comprehensive support services for those in need. Students seeking mental health or life-balance support can access the Counseling Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Wellness Center, and Recreation and Wellbeing. Employees have access to mental health resources through the University of Illinois System Human Resources. Additionally, all members of the UIC community can participate in fitness classes and programs offered by Recreation and Wellbeing facilities located on both sides of the campus.

The Campus Advocacy Network provides confidential services for students and faculty who have experienced gender-based violence. The Office for Access and Equity is dedicated to promoting equal opportunity and inclusiveness across the university. Furthermore, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Engagement offers resources such as support from the Rigo Padilla-Pérez Undocumented Student Resource Center.

Safety remains a top priority at UIC. The university encourages using its safety tools including the UIC Safe app, walking safety escort services, Night Ride transportation services, and Safe Exchange Zone. In case of any concerns requiring law enforcement assistance, individuals are advised to contact UIC Police at 312-355-5555 for emergencies or 312-996-2830 for non-emergencies.

UIC leaders emphasize collaboration in maintaining a secure environment: "Together we can ensure a secure and thriving environment at UIC," stated Karen Colley, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Robert Barish, Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs; John Coronado, Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services; Michael Ginsburg, Special Advisor to the Chancellor for Student Affairs.
