Northwestern University's Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music will commence its fall season of choir concerts with an event addressing gun violence. "A Concert for Hope" is scheduled for Sunday, October 27 at Alice Millar Chapel in Evanston. The concert aims to provide a space to mourn victims and inspire hope for a safer future.
Stacy Garrop's "Repair the World," commissioned for the first anniversary of the Highland Park Fourth of July mass shooting, will be part of the program. Other featured works include compositions by Bob Dylan, Andrea Ramsey, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Adam Podd, and selections from Maurice Duruflé’s “Requiem,” Op. 9.
Stephen Alltop will conduct the concert featuring the Alice Millar Chapel Choir and soloists with Eric Budzynski on organ. Media representatives interested in covering the event are asked to RSVP to Stephen Lewis via email.
This concert marks the beginning of three free choral performances for Northwestern's fall academic quarter. The Bienen Contemporary/Early Vocal Ensemble will perform "Evensong" on November 3, and a holiday-themed "Festival of Lessons and Carols" is set for December 8.
