Illinois launches $5 million marketing campaign for manufacturing sector revitalization

On October 1, Governor JB Pritzker announced the launch of a new marketing campaign titled "Make It In Illinois" at Richard J. Daley College in Chicago. The $5 million initiative aims to revitalize the state's manufacturing sector by attracting new talent and altering perceptions about careers in manufacturing.

Governor Pritzker stated, “Over the past five years, with shoulder to the wheel, Illinois manufacturing has been undergoing a period of growth and transformation that is powering a notable economic turnaround. We’re rebuilding and reclaiming our status as a manufacturing powerhouse.”

The campaign seeks to highlight technological advancements within the industry, showcasing career growth opportunities and its crucial role in Illinois' economy. Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton emphasized this goal by stating, “By investing in the next generation of skilled workers, we are ensuring that Illinois remains a leader in innovation and growth.”

Richard J. Daley College plays an integral role as a partner in this effort. Janine Janosky, President of Daley College, remarked on their involvement: “As City Colleges’ Center of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing, Daley College is honored to be chosen as a key partner to the Make It Illinois Campaign.”

The campaign’s objectives include increasing job applications for positions at manufacturers across Illinois and boosting enrollment in relevant training programs. Kristin Richards, Director of DCEO, noted how they plan to achieve these goals: “From watching success stories online...this campaign will meet people where they are and encourage them to make their future right here in Illinois.”

David Boulay from the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center highlighted the significance of bridging gaps between skilled workers and industry needs through this initiative.

Utilizing various channels like video content and social media alongside partnerships with educational institutions such as Richard J. Daley College will target prospective employees effectively.

Jay Walsh from the University of Illinois expressed support from his office overseeing economic development initiatives underlining IIN's strategic focus on manufacturing sectors across states while Senator Willie Preston mentioned essential resources being provided statewide via these efforts aimed at bolstering overall economic development throughout Illinois.
