CME Group has announced the extension of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Terry Duffy's tenure through an updated contract agreement approved by the Board. Duffy, a veteran of the futures industry for over 40 years, has held his current position since 2016.

Prior to his current role, Duffy held various positions within CME Group. He served as Executive Chairman and President starting in 2012, Executive Chairman from 2006, and Chairman from 2002. His continued tenure in the role of Chairman and CEO will now extend through Dec. 31, 2025, according to a press release by CME Group.

"Given his skillful leadership and unparalleled knowledge of our business, Terry is uniquely qualified to continue transforming our company for future success," said Lead Independent Board Director Dennis A. Suskind in a press release by CME Group. Suskind further stated that "The Board has determined retaining Terry in his current role at the helm of CME Group for another year is in the best interest of our company and shareholders. We are extremely pleased he has agreed to continue serving as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer through December 2025."

Duffy's accomplishments include overseeing the acquisition of the New York Mercantile Exchange in 2008, which incorporated benchmark energy markets into CME Group's portfolio. In 2018, he orchestrated the acquisition of NEX, streamlining trading across various markets. One of his most recent achievements was a landmark partnership with Google Cloud in 2021 aimed at enhancing derivatives markets through cloud technology. Under Duffy's leadership, CME Group earned recognition as the most valuable exchange brand for eight consecutive years. He received the CEO of the Year award at FOW's 2018 International Awards. Beyond his corporate role, he currently serves as Co-Chair of the Mayo Clinic Greater Chicago Leadership Council and holds the position of Vice Chairman of the CME Group Foundation, according to Duffy's biography webpage provided by CME Group.
