Chicago Blackhawks reintroduce black alternate jersey for centennial season

The Chicago Blackhawks have announced the return of their black alternate jersey, a uniform that was originally worn by the team from the 1996-97 to 2008-09 seasons. The jersey is being reintroduced as part of the franchise’s centennial celebration.

The team will wear these jerseys during two upcoming home games: on Friday, November 28 against Nashville and Sunday, November 30 against Anaheim at the United Center. Fans attending these games are encouraged to wear all black apparel as part of ‘Blackout’ events.

“The long-awaited black alternate jersey returns this season as we celebrate 100 years of Blackhawks hockey, giving a nod to some of the greatest players to ever wear the sweater,” said Blackhawks Chairman and CEO Danny Wirtz. “Originally worn by Tony Amonte, Chris Chelios, Eric Daze and Denis Savard in the 1990s-2000s, these jerseys defined an era and became a symbol of the grit, strength, commitment and legacy that still holds true to today’s era of Blackhawks hockey.”

Jaime Faulkner, President of Business Operations for the Blackhawks, added: “We’re not just revisiting our past. We’re reactivating one of hockey’s most striking visual statements. Our fans were part of making it an icon under the United Center lights. They’ve been asking for this moment, and we couldn’t wait to give this back to them as the next generation takes the ice.”

The black alternate jerseys will be worn for seven games throughout the 2025-26 season. These include appearances during several Friday Night Hockey series games presented by Modelo: January 9 versus Washington, January 23 versus Tampa Bay, January 30 versus Columbus, March 14 against Vegas, and March 20 against Colorado.

Fans can purchase the special edition jersey at physical Blackhawks Store locations on Michigan Avenue and inside the United Center or online through CBHShop.com. However, those buying online should note that shipping times may prevent delivery before next week’s Blackout games.
