Marie Lynn Miranda UIC Chancellor | University Of Illinois At Chicago
The Senate External Relations and Public Service Committee at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is seeking nominations for honorary degree recipients. Honorary degrees are the highest distinction awarded by UIC, recognizing individuals from any background who have made significant contributions to scholarship, professional fields, public service, or to the university’s mission in teaching, research, service, and economic development.
According to the committee, nominees can be people of national or international prominence either within or outside academic disciplines. The guidelines indicate that while a connection to UIC is preferred, it is not mandatory for nomination. Nominators must explain why their candidate merits this recognition from UIC.
Nominations should follow the official honorary degree guidelines regarding eligibility and procedures. All submissions must be sent electronically with supporting documents by noon on Monday, December 1. Nominations need to be marked “CONFIDENTIAL: HONORARY DEGREES” and submitted to Elizabeth Dooley, senate coordinator and clerk at the UIC Office of the Senate.
The committee expressed its hope for participation from all colleges and campuses within UIC: "We appreciate your support of this important process for the university and hope to receive nominations from each UIC college and campus this year."
