Illinois Tech's rehab counseling program ranks 11th nationally

Illinois Tech's rehabilitation counseling education program has been recognized as one of the top programs in the United States. According to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025–26 Best Graduate Schools in America rankings, the program is now ranked 11th, up from last year's 15th position.

The improvement in ranking highlights the dedication of both faculty and students who are committed to making a positive impact on individuals with disabilities. Jonathon Larson, Chair of the Department of Psychology, commented on this achievement: “The #11 ranking is a huge success due to the extensive commitment and continued hard work by the faculty members in the Illinois Tech rehabilitation counseling and science program.” He added that this accomplishment enhances student training, program growth, graduate employment options, and external funding opportunities.

Since its inception in 1995, Illinois Tech’s rehabilitation counseling education program has focused on developing leaders in the field. The program features a research-based curriculum aimed at empowering students to improve life quality for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses as professional counselors.

Faculty from this program lead several prominent research centers including the Center for Health Equity, Education, and Research; Chicago Health Disparities Center; National Consortium on Stigma and Empowerment; and Adjusting to Diverse Adversities with People and Technology Psychology Lab.
