UIC's Tom Wamsley appointed as senior VP for advancement at Virginia Tech

Tom Wamsley, vice chancellor for advancement at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and senior vice president of the University of Illinois Foundation, has been appointed as the next senior vice president for advancement at Virginia Tech. His tenure at UIC will conclude on August 15.

During his time at UIC, Wamsley led significant fundraising efforts. Under his guidance, the IGNITE Campaign exceeded its $750 million target by raising a total of $803 million. He played a crucial role in securing some of the largest individual donations in UIC's history, which resulted in the university's first named college and academic department. Additionally, he was instrumental in enhancing alumni engagement through the establishment of the inaugural UIC Alumni Association.

Before joining UIC in 2019, Wamsley held key positions in development and advancement at various institutions including the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business, Wright State University, Antioch College, and the University of Dayton.

Marie Lynn Miranda, PhD, Chancellor of UIC expressed gratitude for Wamsley's leadership and service to both UIC and the University of Illinois Foundation. A national search will be initiated to find his successor with an interim appointment to be announced later.

"Please join us in thanking Tom for his dedication to UIC and in wishing him continued success as he begins this exciting new chapter," said Miranda.
