The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is reiterating its commitment to a drug-free environment for both students and employees. This announcement aligns with federal guidelines that require educational institutions to provide information on their alcohol and drug policies each semester.
The UIC Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy, along with the Resource Guide, has been crafted in compliance with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 and the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989. The policy outlines the health risks and legal consequences associated with alcohol and drug use. It also details the University Standards of Conduct and potential disciplinary actions for policy violations. Additionally, it provides resources available at both university and community levels for those dealing with substance-related issues.
"The policy represents the university’s continued commitment to creating a healthy learning and work environment," states Michael Ginsburg, PhD, Special Advisor to the Chancellor for Student Affairs. Students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these policies, while employees are advised to review the University Statement on a Drug-Free Workplace.
