The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) has announced the formation of a new committee aimed at revisiting and updating its General Education Program. The initiative seeks to better equip students to tackle 21st-century challenges. The existing program was last revised in 2007.
The Committee to Reimagine General Education at UIC will be led by Rosie Hernández, senior associate dean for student academic affairs at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Eric Schwarze, associate director of academic program development in the Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Programs, Student Success, and Effectiveness. The committee includes representatives from various colleges and units involved with undergraduate degree programs.
The primary task is to review the current curriculum and propose a new structure for the General Education Program. The process will involve consultation with colleges, faculty, students, and other stakeholders through public forums and meetings to gather feedback and seek endorsement for any proposals.
Input from the UIC community is deemed essential for this endeavor. "On behalf of the committee members and my office," stated an official communication, "thank you for the collaborative spirit with which I know our community will meet this endeavor."
