Economics for Everyone expands with new lessons and international partnership

The Economics for Everyone (E4E) initiative has announced the release of more than 30 new microeconomics videos and resources available in both English and Spanish. This expansion aims to make economic education accessible to a wider audience, providing tools for anyone interested in understanding the fundamentals of economic thinking.

"E4E is designed to ignite curiosity in students at the dawn of their economic exploration," said Professor John List, who developed the initial courses for the initiative alongside Professor Emeritus Steve Levitt in 2017. The program focuses on simplifying economics by stripping away complex mathematics and technical language, thus making it easier for learners to grasp foundational economic ideas.

Managed by the Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics at the University of Chicago, E4E initially began as a course for university students but has since grown into a multimedia initiative aimed at lifelong learners, current students, professionals seeking development, and educators. With support from an anonymous donor, this media initiative is now led by Professors Greg Kaplan, John List, and Robert Shimer.

The first digital offering from E4E includes a custom microeconomics curriculum developed by List. It features over 30 core videos covering essential economic concepts along with more than 25 explainer videos that delve into the math behind these ideas. These resources are freely accessible upon registration on the Economics for Everyone website.

In addition to online availability, E4E engages potential learners through social media platforms like Instagram (@econforeveryone), where they share humorous short videos introducing key economic concepts.

The initiative's global reach is further extended through its partnership with Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) in Chile. This collaboration includes developing Spanish-language resources such as a dedicated website and video subtitles. UChicago will provide academic oversight while UDD integrates E4E materials into high school curricula and conducts teacher training.

"Partnering with UDD marks a significant E4E milestone as we expand our reach and impact globally," commented Shimer. Executive Director Tali Paransky Griffin highlighted that such partnerships are crucial for scaling up the initiative’s efforts worldwide.

With ongoing developments across various fronts, including potential distribution partners and educator resources to facilitate classroom integration, E4E remains committed to broadening access to economic education.

"We are now poised to bring E4E’s unique approach to economics to more learners than ever before," stated Kaplan. "This is only the beginning."
