Recently, Chicago City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin discussed her initiatives to enhance financial literacy and generational wealth in underserved communities. The conversation took place with Marshelle Sanders, focusing on economic empowerment and upcoming events.
Melissa Conyears-Ervin emphasized the importance of Black History Month as a time for reflection and celebration. "It’s been heartwarming to see so many people come together to acknowledge and honor our history," she stated.
As Women's History Month approaches, Conyears-Ervin shared plans for special events, including “Wealth Wednesdays.” This series will feature notable women in finance and entrepreneurship. "This year, we’re lucky to have Suzanne Yoon joining us," said Conyears-Ervin.
Reflecting on personal influences, Conyears-Ervin credited her mother as her inspiration. "She taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance," she said.
Conyears-Ervin also spoke about the “Building Wealth Today for Tomorrow” Summit held last October. She highlighted its purpose of helping underrepresented communities understand wealth-building. A memorable moment was when Matthew Knowles shared advice: “If my kids wanted to be doctors, I’d have bought them a hospital.”
