UIC Campus Recreation has announced a name change to Recreation and Wellbeing. This change reflects their commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of the UIC community to support student success.
"Names matter — they represent who we are and what we do," stated the announcement. The new name emphasizes a focus on physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, positioning the department as more than just a facility but as a hub for holistic health and personal growth.
The change aligns with the Office of Health and Wellbeing partners, including the Counseling Center, Wellness Center, and Public Health Initiatives. These collaborations aim to support UIC's goal of being a health-promoting campus dedicated to advancing student wellbeing and success. This approach provides integrated support for the UIC community, fostering development in an environment where everyone can thrive.
To further this mission, crisis counselors and case managers will be integrated within Recreation and Wellbeing at the Sport & Fitness Center. This will provide accessible care for students. Additionally, the Counseling Center’s Community Engagement and Outreach Team is expanding its ability to support students' mental health.
"The name change is a significant milestone for the department," highlighting its evolution towards promoting active lifestyles and overall wellbeing in meaningful ways. Recreation and Wellbeing is dedicated to empowering students to achieve their goals while contributing to their academic success.
This transition reflects Recreation and Wellbeing’s vision for a future where wellbeing is central to the UIC experience. Under this new name, they remain committed to creating innovative programs, fostering inclusive spaces, and providing resources that support student success across campus.
