Navy Pier announces 2025 global connections Lunar New Year kickoff

Navy Pier has announced the commencement of its 2025 Global Connections Series with a free Lunar New Year celebration scheduled for February 1. This announcement was made through a press release.

The Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier will host the event, celebrating the Year of the Snake with performances, music, art, and interactive activities. The celebration will highlight traditions observed across Asia and the Middle East. Community partners include organizations such as the Chinese Fine Arts Society and the Korean Performing Arts Institute of Chicago. This Lunar New Year celebration is part of Navy Pier's broader 2025 Global Connections series, which will also feature events like International Carnivale, Holi, and Mexico Fest. Details regarding these events are subject to change.

According to the event website, performances on Saturday will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., featuring groups such as the Chinese Fine Arts Society, Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago, Thai Cultural and Fine Arts Institute, CMAA Lotus Dances, and VSA Cultural. Additional acts include Bucket Boys & Benny the Bull, Ichiban-Boshi, Soul Power Band, Helixx Crew, and the Korean Performing Arts Institute of Chicago. The event is sponsored by ComEd, Chicago Sister Cities International, and the Sue Ling Gin Foundation Trust.

"We are thrilled to support this vibrant Lunar New Year celebration," said Mark Noffke of the Sue Ling Gin Foundation Trust in a press release. "Lunar New Year is not only a moment of cultural significance for many but also an opportunity to bring people from all walks of life together in a shared experience of joy, unity, and reflection."

Navy Pier is a nonprofit destination located on Lake Michigan in Chicago. It spans over six city blocks and includes parks, restaurants, attractions, retail shops, and cruise boats. Originally opened in 1916 as a shipping and recreation facility, it has undergone several expansions over time. These include the addition of the Centennial Wheel and Family Pavilion in 2016 and further redevelopment in 2021 with new dining options and a hotel. According to its website, Navy Pier offers free arts and cultural programs throughout the year.
