Marie Lynn Miranda UIC Chancellor | University Of Illinois At Chicago
The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) has released its Climate Commitment Action Plan 2024, which aims to guide the university towards a sustainable future. This plan outlines UIC's strategic approach to climate action and is intended to benefit not only the campus but also the city and beyond.
The development of this plan involved nearly a year of collaboration among UIC staff, consultants, campus stakeholders, and sustainability advocates. It establishes a framework for sustainability initiatives based on five key climate commitments. These commitments include achieving carbon neutrality, diverting 90% of waste from landfills, optimizing water use to minimize stormwater runoff, creating a biodiverse landscape, and promoting sustainability studies.
Planning, Sustainability and Project Management is responsible for advancing these commitments by tracking data, assessing progress, disseminating information, and providing guidance under the Chancellor’s Committee on Sustainability and Energy.
John Coronado, Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services at UIC stated: "We encourage each of you to read the plan and participate in UIC’s sustainability work."
