Flying Food Group (FFG), a global airline catering company headquartered in Chicago has established a significant philanthropic presence through the Sue Ling Gin Foundation.
Founded by the company’s late CEO, Sue Ling Gin, this charitable trust directs FFG’s profits to various initiatives that benefit communities and individuals worldwide.
A key focus of FFG’s philanthropy is education. In 2023, the Sue Ling Gin Foundation contributed to the International Flight Services Association (IFSA) Foundation Scholarship Fund, distributing over 25 scholarships totaling $129,800 to students pursuing careers in catering, onboard services, and airline passenger experience. Among the recipients was Jessica Baumgart, who was awarded a $25,000 scholarship to pursue a nursing degree at UCLA.
FFG’s educational contributions extend beyond scholarships. A $20 million donation to Chicago’s Field Museum in 2023 funded the Sue Ling Gin Center for Education and Public Programs, which provides enriching experiences for thousands of students.
The company also supports community services through its partnership with the Chinese American Service League (CASL), which offers multi-generational family support. A $10 million donation from the Sue Ling Gin Foundation is funding CASL’s South Loop expansion, which will include senior housing, early childcare, and a community center.
Healthcare is another focus area for FFG’s philanthropic efforts. Since 2010, the company has provided on-site healthcare for employees at its O’Hare facility, a program now expanded to its Los Angeles operations. In collaboration with RUSH University Medical Center, FFG operates free health clinics in both cities, offering comprehensive services to employees and their families. The Sue Ling Gin Foundation also established the Sue Gin Health Center at Oakley Square on Chicago’s West Side, providing free healthcare to underserved communities.
Additionally, FFG made a $21 million grant to Chicago CRED, a violence intervention program co-founded by former U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, aimed at reducing gun violence in 15 of Chicago’s most affected neighborhoods.
Sue Ling Gin’s legacy of giving back remains integral to FFG’s operations. Through its structure, where all profits fund the Sue Ling Gin Foundation, FFG channels its financial success into sustained support for education, healthcare, and community development.
