Flying Food Group’s Sue Ling Gin Foundation donates $21 million to Chicago community violence intervention program

The Sue Ling Gin Foundation Trust, which is affiliated with airline catering company Flying Food Group (FFG), has recently donated $21 million to Chicago CRED, a community violence intervention program. The substantial donation was publicly announced on the organization's website on November 28th.

Chicago CRED was co-founded in 2016 by Arne Duncan, the former secretary of the U.S. Department of Education and CEO of Chicago Public Schools. Duncan's program primarily focuses its attention and resources in some of the city’s most underserved neighborhoods, engaging with young people at high risk of getting involved with gun violence.

The three-year grant will permit CRED to expand its efforts in community violence intervention across different neighborhoods on the South and West Sides of Chicago, including North Lawndale, Roseland, and Pullman. According to the information available on their official website, Duncan stated that this expansion would not only support individual transformation but would also aid in actively suppressing violence within these communities.

Duncan emphasized the wider impact of such generous financial support: "This grant helps us and will help others start to move not just from the individual work, which is critical, but also towards really trying to reduce violence in the 15 most violent neighborhoods in Chicago. This could potentially transform our city."

Both Flying Food Group and The Sue Ling Gin Foundation Trust have proven their commitment to philanthropy this fall season. In September, FFG contributed book bags and laptops at the 18th Annual Back to School Block Party. This event was sponsored by Life Changers Church and Ministries International Inc., as reported by Business Daily. Thanks to this donation, the church was able to distribute book bags and laptops to families in need during two other community events.

In October, Business Daily also reported that the Trust made a significant $20 million donation to the Field Museum of Chicago as a way to honor Sue Gin's memory. This substantial gift marked the commencement of a larger campaign to raise $40 million in new endowment for the museum's educational programs. Julian Siggers, Field Museum President and CEO, stated that this campaign is designed to secure the longevity of these programs and enrich field trips for students.

Flying Food Group, established in 1983 by Sue Gin, offers food catering services to numerous major airlines such as Air France, Aer Lingus. Lufthansa, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Swiss Air and TAP Air Portugal. Operating from 15 different airports across the nation with its headquarters in Chicago, FFG continues to impact both the airline industry and local communities positively.
