Experts in quantum science and technology will convene in Chicago from October 21-22 for the seventh annual Chicago Quantum Summit. The event gathers leaders from government, industry, and academia to discuss recent developments and future directions in quantum science. David Awschalom, a key figure at the University of Chicago and director of Q-NEXT, highlighted the significance of this year’s advances in research and commercial endeavors.

The summit will also address regional leadership with speakers such as JB Pritzker, Governor of Illinois; Joe Altepeter from DARPA; and Pete Shadbolt from PsiQuantum. They will discuss investments in quantum technologies linked to the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park. Altepeter mentioned DARPA's Quantum Benchmarking Initiative which aims to validate quantum computing progress.

A discussion between Walter Massey and Thomas Searles will explore perspectives on quantum information science today. Keynotes from industry leaders like Noel Goddard of Qunnect, Matthew Kinsella of Infleqtion, and Charina Chou of Google Quantum AI are expected to provide insights into the growing industry.

Matthew Kinsella emphasized that “quantum is a transformative leap” addressing critical global issues. He noted that collaboration across various sectors is crucial for progress in quantum technologies.

The summit will feature presentations by winners of the Boeing Quantum Creators Prize, celebrating early-career researchers’ achievements in fields such as computing and sensing. Additionally, a public outreach event titled "Quantum Game Night" will be held at Bowen High School to introduce the local community to career opportunities in quantum fields.
