Chicago's annual "Chicago Moves Day" was held on May 3 this year with the goal of helping people develop healthier habits and lifestyles.
According to a The Official Website of the Chicago Park District, the event was free and open to the public. It was held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Union Park, 1501 West Randolph Street in Chicago.
“On Chicago Moves Day and year-round in the parks, we hope to raise awareness and encourage residents to take small steps to make their health both a priority and a habit,” Chicago Park District Superintendent and CEO Rosa Escareño said, according to the Park District website.
Chicago Moves Day highlighted a wide range of local vendors, including Buddha Belly Kids Yoga, Bubbles Soccer, Chicago Public Schools' Children and Family Benefits, Essence of Life and many others.
“Chicago Moves Day is a great opportunity to launch that fitness journey, and we provide resources, education and an afternoon of fun workouts and activities for participants to enjoy,” Escareño said, according to the Park District website.
Activities were offered throughout the event on the main stage, including Zen Yoga Garage and Zumba and Yoga.
To drive action for Chicago Moves Day, 70 fitness centers in the Chicago Park District provided free access to residents from May 3 through May 6, and fitness centers in the area usually range from $10 to $20 monthly. Memberships were offered for purchase at each facility.
Information was available at the event about the Chicago Park District’s summer programing activities, offering area residents a wide range of activities and programs that promote healthy lifestyles, including a number of nutrition and fitness courses for all ages at more than 100 sites across the city.
The Chicago Wellness Department will also host a number of fitness-inspired events in the summer, including National Recreation and Park Association Family Fitness Day on Saturday, June 10, and International Day of Yoga on Wednesday, June 21.
