Chicago-area residents and visitors alike can gear up for some winter fun as Polar Adventure Days – a signature winter tradition in the Windy City – offers a connection with nature and wildlife in an urban setting.
During the winter months, Polar Adventure Days features live animals and a number of winter activities, according to a Chicago Park District news release. The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Jan. 21 and Feb. 25 at Northerly Island Park’s indoor and outdoor facilities, according to the park district, and winter attire is recommended. The park district noted that weather can impact the agenda.
“Polar Adventure Days has become a signature winter tradition for Chicagoans and visitors alike for almost two decades,” Chicago Park District Superintendent and CEO Rosa Escareño said in the park district news release. “Connecting with nature and wildlife in an urban setting is an experience unlike any other during the colder months in Chicago’s premiere downtown nature oasis.”
During the events, attendees can enjoy a wide array of educational and entertaining events for the entire family as part of the free winter event, according to the park district, including touring the Northerly Island Natural Area and learning about wildlife, from Siberian huskies and other animals. The park district also noted that local puppeteers Jabberwocky Marionettes will perform, and campfire stories with Al Eastman will be offered.
The park district also noted that visitors will be able to carve from the wood of recycled Christmas trees, and enjoy an educational program about birds, including raptors.
The event will include details on husky rescues, tips on building a birdfeeder and hot chocolate will be available. For more information about the event, visit the Chicago Park District website at chicagoparkdistrict.com/polar-adventure-days.
