On Giving Tuesday, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce highlighted the contributions of local businesses and nonprofit organizations to the community. The Chamber emphasized its commitment to strengthening the region’s economic and civic environment by supporting members whose missions address a range of social issues.
"Giving Tuesday reminds us that philanthropy and business leadership go hand in hand. Thank you to the organizations working tirelessly to serve our communities and to the companies who continue to champion them. Together, we’re building a more vibrant Chicagoland for all," stated the Chamber.
The Chamber encouraged businesses, employees, and partners to support various nonprofit members as a way to give back. Among those recognized were:
- The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which focuses on saving lives through research, education, advocacy, and support for those affected by suicide. "Your gift TODAY makes a difference and directly impacts suicide prevention. By giving a gift today, you support our team in accomplishing this mission through our research, evidence-driven education, state and federal advocacy, and loss and healing support for anyone affected by suicide."
- Blood Cancer United is dedicated to finding cures for blood cancers while providing patient and caregiver support during treatment. "This Giving Tuesday, please consider making a donation and spreading the word about the great work Blood Cancer United is doing right here in Chicagoland."
- The Chicago Lighthouse offers programs for people who are blind or visually impaired, veterans, or otherwise disabled. "Offering individualized programs in education, employment training and placement, low-vision care, advocacy and more, The Lighthouse helps unlock opportunities that empower individuals of all ages to thrive on their own terms."
- Emmaus supports male survivors of human trafficking through its Street Outreach Program. "Share hope this Giving Tuesday by supporting the Street Outreach Program at Emmaus... Your gift sustains the on-the-ground work that connects our most vulnerable neighbors with the support they need to take their next step."
- Friends of the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse works under federal law to transfer ownership of the historic 1893 lighthouse from city control in order to raise private funds for its preservation.
- Genesys Works provides mentorships and career pathways for high school students from underserved communities.
- Great Lakes Credit Union promotes financial empowerment locally through volunteerism and education. "This Giving Tuesday, please consider supporting financial empowerment of Chicago’s local communities with a donation to the GLCU Foundation for Financial Empowerment."
- JPA delivers school-based mental health services for children across Chicago.
- The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois seeks donations to fund patient services related to kidney disease.
- Openlands works on land conservation efforts throughout Chicagoland.
- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital raises funds for pediatric cancer research and treatment: "On Giving Tuesday, give more than a gift. Give a chance at a lifetime."
The Chamber described Giving Tuesday as an opportunity distinct from consumer-focused holidays—one where individuals can invest in organizations that benefit their community.
