More than 30 leaders from Chicago's business, civic, faith, higher education, and philanthropic sectors gathered on Friday, November 7, to publicly oppose tactics used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) across the city's neighborhoods.
The group expressed concerns that ICE’s actions are negatively affecting residents and local communities. They also warned that these tactics could have significant impacts on the city’s economy, workforce, and public safety.
Among those participating were representatives from organizations such as the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, Metropolitan Family Services, CRED Chicago (including a former U.S. Secretary of Education), and the American Business Immigration Council.
During the event, the assembled leaders signed an open letter denouncing ICE’s methods and calling for greater unity throughout Chicago. The signatories represent a range of backgrounds and perspectives from across the city.
