The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce has expressed support for recently passed legislation that provides funding for the region’s public transit systems. In a statement, the Chamber emphasized the importance of a reliable transit system to the local economy and community well-being.
“A strong, safe, and reliable transit system is essential to our region’s economy and growth. This legislation will help secure Chicagoland’s transit future, ensuring workers are able to travel to their jobs, residents have access to necessary services, and businesses have a strong foundation to thrive. By dedicating transit-based revenues for transit needs, we now have a sustainable solution that will avoid significant cuts and allow for continued investments in a dynamic transit system. Importantly, resources will be directed to increase public safety throughout the transit system, a key goal of the business community and residents,” said , President and CEO of Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. “We thank and the for their leadership and applaud their efforts to craft an agreement on this important issue.”
The Chamber highlighted that the plan allocates dedicated revenues from transit-related sources specifically toward maintaining and improving public transportation services in the area. The organization also noted that part of the new funding would go toward enhancing safety measures across local transit networks.
