Dr. Mark Rosenblatt, currently the G. Stephen Irwin Executive Dean at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and chief executive officer of the University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics, has been named the next vice chancellor of human health sciences at the University of California Davis. He will take on his new position overseeing UC Davis Health starting January 19, 2026.
Rosenblatt has held a dual role as dean and CEO at UIC, which has allowed for closer integration between academic medicine and clinical care. During his tenure, he established the AI.Health4All Center at the College of Medicine to use artificial intelligence and machine learning in efforts to improve fairness and reduce bias in healthcare delivery. He also led strategic planning initiatives that have strengthened both the hospital’s operations and growth within the College of Medicine.
In addition to his administrative roles, Rosenblatt served as Distinguished Professor and head of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, director of the Corneal Regenerative Medicine Laboratory, and director of the Medical Scientist Training Program. Prior to joining UIC in 2014, he was on faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College for six years where he also served as vice chair in ophthalmology.
Chancellor Miranda stated: "Chancellor Miranda and I will meet soon with College of Medicine department chairs and hospital leadership to solicit input on potential interim appointments."
The announcement encouraged colleagues to recognize Rosenblatt's service: "Please join me in expressing our deepest gratitude to Mark for his service to UIC and in wishing him continued success in this next chapter of his career."
