University Illinois of Chicago begins seasonal transition to winter heating in campus buildings

As cooler weather arrives, Utilities and Energy Services at the University Illinois of Chicago will start transitioning campus buildings and plants to winter heating mode. This process will take several days to complete. The university notes that if outdoor temperatures rise above 55 degrees after the transition, some buildings may experience periods of discomfort.

The administration is asking for patience and understanding from the campus community during this period. There may be times when it is not possible to provide both heating and cooling within the same day. For instance, buildings might feel cool in the morning but become more comfortable as the day progresses. In these cases, Facilities Management requests that there is no need to contact their call center.

John Coronado, Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services, stated: "Please know that we will make every effort to keep indoor temperatures conducive to learning, teaching and working as our building systems allow."

More information about how heating and cooling are managed in campus buildings can be found on the Energy Management in Existing Facilities webpage.

Coronado also thanked everyone for their cooperation during this seasonal change.
