UIC Human Resources offers free professional development webinars in October

Marie Lynn Miranda UIC Chancellor | University Of Illinois At Chicago

The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Human Resources department has opened registration for a series of professional development webinars and virtual workshops scheduled throughout October. These sessions are available at no cost to UIC employees unless otherwise specified.

The webinars cover a range of topics relevant to staff, faculty, administrators, supervisors, and human resource representatives. Subjects include adaptability in times of change, addressing harmful language in the workplace, understanding diverse work styles, building accountability, and strengthening relationships with managers. Other sessions focus on organizational citizenship behaviors, mental fitness for performance, effective delegation, and transitioning from peer to supervisor roles.

Specific offerings for administrators and HR professionals include courses on facilitating change to support growth, measuring organizational citizenship behaviors for supervisors and managers, reducing counterproductive behaviors through leadership strategies, preventing ego-driven leadership practices, and empowering teams through trust and responsibility.

Each webinar is designed with practical tools and strategies aimed at improving workplace culture and individual performance. For example:

- "Adaptability: Thriving through Change and Uncertainty" focuses on building resilience during periods of transition.

- "Building a Culture of Accountability" examines how accountability can enhance success at every level within an organization.

- "Collaboration vs. Cooperation: Empowering Teams for Success" discusses when to collaborate versus cooperate to achieve team goals.

- "From Bias to Belonging: Addressing Harmful Language in the Workplace" provides methods for creating respectful environments by tackling toxic language.

- "Value Over Ego: Preventing Ego-Driven Leadership and Counterproductive Work Behaviors" addresses the impact of ego-driven leadership on team dynamics.

Employees interested in these learning opportunities can find detailed course descriptions as well as registration links on the UIC Human Resources website or the HR Training Calendar. Additional information is available under the Employees and HR Staff & Managers sections online. Questions regarding these events can be directed to mycareeruic@uillinois.edu.
