Marie Lynn Miranda UIC Chancellor | University Of Illinois At Chicago
The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Human Resources department will offer a series of professional development webinars and virtual workshops throughout September. These sessions are available at no cost to UIC employees unless otherwise specified. Registration is open on the UIC Human Resources website, where further details and the HR Training Calendar can be found.
The upcoming webinars are recommended for all UIC staff and faculty. Topics include coaching for performance, emotional intelligence, workplace behaviors, mindfulness strategies, accountability, and mental wellness in a digital environment. Sessions begin on September 2 with "Introduction to Coaching for Performance" and continue through September 30 with "Caring Too Much? Understanding Compassion Fatigue, Burnout and Stress."
In addition to offerings for general staff and faculty, specific courses are suggested for administrators, supervisors, and human resource representatives. These include "Active Listening for Coaching Performance" on September 16 and "Facilitating Change to Support Performance Growth and Transformation" on September 23.
Questions about registration or course content can be directed to mycareeruic@uillinois.edu.
Course descriptions provided by UIC Human Resources detail each session’s objectives. For example, the webinar on active listening aims to help supervisors use coaching techniques during meetings to improve processes through attentive listening. The session on building a culture of accountability discusses strategies that encourage ownership of tasks at all levels within an organization.
Several webinars address employee well-being in the workplace. “Caring Too Much? Understanding Compassion Fatigue, Burnout and Stress” explores the challenges faced by those in service-oriented roles. “Compassion in Action: A Path to Personal and Workplace Well-being” examines how compassion can support organizational culture.
Other sessions focus on practical skills such as developing positive habits ("Maximizing Your Potential: Building Habits for Success"), managing stress in digital environments ("Mental Wellness in a Digital World"), understanding workplace behaviors ("Introduction to Counterproductive Workplace Behaviors"), promoting supportive work environments ("Introduction to Organizational Citizenship Behaviors"), and handling anxiety at work ("Staying Positive Under Pressure: Overcoming Anxiety at Work").
