The University of Illinois at Chicago is set to upgrade its High Temperature Hot Water Generator system on the east side of campus. The project aims to increase production capacity and replace outdated equipment.
To carry out the work, Utilities and Energy Services will conduct a 48-hour shutdown of the hot water system. The shutdown will start at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 15, and continue until 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 17. Most buildings in the east and south areas of campus will not have hot water during this period.
Several facilities will remain unaffected by the shutdown. These include Academic and Residential Complex, Art and Exhibition Hall, Credit Union 1 Arena, College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs Hall, Student Services Building, UIH University Village clinics, and University Village commercial tenants.
Temporary stations for handwashing with hot water will be placed in some locations. Campus Housing will also provide access to shower facilities at the Academic and Residential Complex as well as on the west side of campus.
A return to normal operations is expected by Sunday evening.
"If you have questions or need more information about the shutdown, please email the project manager, Anwar Sultan."
"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as this work is completed."
