UIC schedules welcome events for new academic year

Karen Colley Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs | University Of Illinois At Chicago

The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) will hold a series of welcome events to begin the 2025-26 academic year, aimed at new and returning students, faculty, and staff. The activities are intended to help integrate first-year and transfer undergraduate, graduate, and professional students into campus life.

The 19th Annual New Student Convocation will take place on Wednesday, August 27 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at University Hall Lawn and Harrison Field. This event serves as the official start for new undergraduate students joining UIC’s academic community. Traditions such as the lighting of the torch, signing of the banner, and a group photo for new undergraduates are scheduled.

On the same day, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., UIC will host the Health Sciences Welcome Picnic in the Medical Sciences Courtyard between the College of Medicine Research Building and the Neuropsychiatric Institute. The picnic is designed for networking among members of UIC’s health sciences community with refreshments, music, exhibitors, and giveaways planned. In case of rain, an alternate date has been set for August 28.

For graduate students, UIC’s Graduate College Welcome Back Picnic and Resource Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at University Hall Lawn. New and returning graduate students can attend this event to access campus resources while engaging with peers; faculty and staff are also invited.

ASL interpretation will be available during these events. Attendees needing additional accommodations or information are advised to contact New Student and Family Programs at UIC.

“We look forward to you joining us and welcoming all of our new UIC Flames!” said Michael Ginsburg, Special Advisor to the Chancellor for Student Affairs; Karen Colley, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; and Robert Barish, Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs.
