A group of twelve students has completed a three-day painter skills program at Arturo Velasquez Institute, thanks to a partnership with Sherwin-Williams. The program aimed to prepare participants for careers in professional painting. At the conclusion of the course, students received certificates during a small ceremony.
Congressman Jesus Garcia played a key role in bringing this training opportunity to Daley College. He attended the ceremony alongside Daley College Interim President Peggy Korellis and congratulated the new graduates. In his address, Congressman Garcia highlighted the significance of trades-based training programs that lead to employment opportunities within industries facing skill shortages.
The training involved preliminary preparation through 12 online modules provided by Sherwin-Williams. Participants learned various aspects of painting, including basics, tools and materials, effective surface preparation, and safety practices. The final day focused on job market readiness by assisting students in creating effective resumes.
Daley College and its satellite campus, Arturo Velasquez Institute, plan to offer this class again in the fall.
