Northwestern University Dance Marathon (NUDM) has named Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation as its primary beneficiary for 2026. This Chicago-based non-profit organization assists children with cancer and their families, addressing the emotional, financial, psychosocial, and educational challenges that accompany a pediatric cancer diagnosis.
The funds raised by NUDM in 2026 will support several of Bear Necessities' programs. Among these is the Hope Education Scholarship Program, which offers a $5,000 annual scholarship to one student each year for the next 20 years. Donations will also bolster the "Bear Hugs" initiative, providing customized experiences and gifts to children undergoing treatment. Additionally, the grant from NUDM will enable the charity to expand its mental health counseling services over three years. Furthermore, $10,000 will be allocated specifically for pediatric cancer research.
NUDM maintains its ongoing partnership with the Evanston Community Foundation (ECF), marking ECF as its secondary beneficiary for the 29th consecutive year. ECF contributes to the Evanston area through local grants that strengthen families, support youth, and build community resilience.
Now celebrating its 52nd year, Northwestern University Dance Marathon is among the largest independent student-run philanthropies in the nation, having raised over $23 million. NUDM conducts fundraising and service campaigns throughout the year, culminating in a 15-hour marathon involving more than 800 dancers. The date for NUDM 2025 will be announced during Northwestern’s winter quarter.
