The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce has issued a statement reflecting on the 2025 Spring Legislative Session. The session was described as one of the most challenging in recent memory due to economic uncertainty and potential federal funding cuts.
In their statement, the Chamber commended Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois General Assembly for engaging with stakeholders and making difficult decisions to adopt a balanced budget. However, they emphasized that further work is needed, particularly in managing the spending plan and addressing the public transit fiscal crisis in the Chicago region.
The Chamber expressed satisfaction with the prioritization of a comprehensive economic development package by Governor Pritzker and legislators. This package includes incentives for manufacturers, capital investment programs, and business recruitment initiatives aimed at fostering long-term economic growth.
Despite these positive steps, the Chamber noted that more needs to be done regarding transit, energy, and pension reform. They highlighted concerns over recently approved legislation that will significantly increase pension liabilities for Chicago's police and firefighters.
The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively to address these issues and enhance the state's and region's prospects for success.
