Chicagoland Chamber announces Christopher Smith as keynote speaker for annual meeting

The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce has announced Christopher Smith, Chief Government Affairs Officer at Ford Motor Company, as the keynote speaker for its 121st Annual Meeting. Smith will address business and civic leaders from across the region, focusing on commerce's strength and future in Chicagoland.

Smith is expected to discuss the impact of recent federal tariff announcements on the auto industry and beyond. He will outline how Ford is responding to these developments, including implications for electric vehicle production and the company's broader strategy. Additionally, Smith will speak about how these economic changes might affect both the national economy and specifically Illinois and the Chicagoland area.

Ford's South Side assembly plant recently marked its 100th anniversary. Smith’s remarks are anticipated to link Ford's local history with future innovation, manufacturing, and regional economic resilience. This aligns with the Chamber’s mission to foster progress and opportunity within Chicago’s business community.

President and CEO of the Chamber stated: “As businesses across Chicago navigate an increasingly uncertain economic landscape, we’re honored to welcome Christopher Smith, Chief Government Affairs Officer at Ford Motor Company, as the featured speaker of the Chamber’s Annual Meeting. His perspective on policy and industry will offer invaluable insight into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for all sectors of our economy.”

The Annual Meeting promises a significant event highlighted by Smith’s keynote address. As Chicago's business community gathers to celebrate achievements, his insights are expected to inspire attendees about collaboration and innovation's role in driving economic growth.

Christopher Smith was appointed Ford’s chief government affairs officer in March 2022. He leads a global team advocating for legislation beneficial to Ford's growth plan. Before joining Ford, he served as senior vice president at Cheniere Energy and held positions in various organizations including Chevron, Citibank, JPMorgan, and served in the U.S. Department of Energy during Obama's administration.

Smith began his career as an officer in the United States Army after earning a bachelor's degree from West Point. He also holds advanced degrees from Cambridge University and American Public University.
