UIC students now have the opportunity to expand their transportation access as the U-PASS+ program offers an inclusion of Metra Rail. This option, available for the summer 2025 term, allows for unlimited travel on any Metra line, with the exception of the South Shore line. The initiative provides UIC students with enhanced mobility across the Chicagoland area.
For those interested in more details or in adding Metra Rail to their travel options, information is available on the U-PASS+ webpage. The students' current U-PASS opt-in or opt-out choices will remain unchanged through the summer semester.
Summer 2025 will see the CTA U-PASS and U-PASS+ programs open for all full-time summer session students and staff engaged in a summer course load. The summer U-PASS will be functional from May 14 to August 13, with an earlier start of April 30 for College of Medicine students.
Eligibility for this benefit is restricted to full-time summer students, defined as enrolling in six or more credit hours for undergraduate/professional students and five or more for graduate students, including those in the School of Public Health. The last date to opt in for the U-PASS is June 30 by 11:59 p.m., while the deadline to opt out is June 11 by 11:59 p.m. After the latter date, students cannot change their status from opt-in to opt-out for the rest of the summer session.
Students who drop below full-time enrollment status before the add/drop deadline will have their U-PASS privileges terminated. Moreover, students opting in without registering as full-time students will not qualify for the program nor incur any fees.
The fees for the Summer 2025 U-PASS are set at $125 for most students, and $130 for those in the College of Medicine. For the U-PASS+, which includes CTA and Metra, the fees are $275 for most students and $289 for College of Medicine students.
It is advisable for students to confirm their U-PASS status via the program's webpage and ensure they have an i-card photo for ordering the U-PASS. Existing cardholders will adhere to the usual policies concerning lost or replacement cards.
For inquiries and further details, students are encouraged to visit the U-PASS and U-PASS+ webpages.
