A North Aurora resident has been charged with multiple felonies following an investigation by the Cook County Sheriff's Police Special Victims Unit (SVU). The operation targeted individuals attempting to engage in illegal sexual activities with minors, as announced by Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart.
The investigation began earlier this month when SVU investigators posted an advertisement on a website known for commercial sex-related ads. Posing as a 16-year-old, they were contacted by Gregory White from the 300 block of Dee Road in North Aurora. White engaged in explicit conversations via text messages over several days.
During the course of the investigation, White requested and sent sexually explicit photos, videos, and messages. He then arranged to meet what he believed was a minor for sexual acts.
On February 17th, White arrived at the agreed location where investigators arrested him without incident. After receiving his Miranda warning, White admitted his intention to engage in sexual acts with someone he thought was 16 years old.
On February 18th, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony charges against White. These include one count each of Attempt Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, Indecent Solicitation of a Child, Traveling to Meet a Minor, and Manufacturing Harmful Material.
White appeared at his initial court hearing today at the Bridgeview Courthouse. A judge ordered his release pending trial with another court appearance scheduled for March 14th.
The public is reminded that "the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law."
