Taylor Street roadwork phase 2 begins next week on west side of campus

The Chicago Department of Transportation is set to commence Phase 2 of the Taylor Street roadwork project next week, weather permitting. The work will focus on the stretch between Hermitage Avenue and Racine Avenue on the west side of campus and is expected to last several weeks.

The project includes street resurfacing, bike lane resurfacing and restriping, curb and gutter replacements, as well as ADA sidewalk repairs. These improvements aim to enhance accessibility and safety for all road users in the area.

During construction, minor disruptions to vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic are anticipated. Vehicle lanes will remain open but may be reduced to one lane at a time. Flaggers will be present to manage both vehicle and pedestrian movement during active work periods. Sidewalks might be temporarily closed with signage directing pedestrians along alternate routes. Cyclists are advised to consider alternative paths while work is underway.

All road users are urged to exercise increased caution when traveling through the affected area during this period. For inquiries regarding the project, individuals can contact planning@uic.edu.

"We appreciate your cooperation and attention as this work takes place."
