The Chicago Blackhawks have signed forward AJ Spellacy to a three-year, entry-level contract. The agreement will keep Spellacy with the team through the 2026-27 season, with a salary cap hit of $975,000.
Spellacy, an 18-year-old player from Cleveland, Ohio, has accumulated 25 points (11 goals and 14 assists) in 40 games with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League during the current season. This year marks his first as an alternate captain for the team. He is close to matching his career-high of 17 assists set last season.
Over his OHL career with the Spitfires from 2022 to 2025, Spellacy has gathered a total of 80 points (39 goals and 41 assists) in 154 regular-season games. During the previous season, he achieved personal bests in several categories: games played (67), goals (21), assists (17), and points (38). His goal tally placed him fourth among team skaters while he ranked fifth in overall points. Internationally, Spellacy contributed to Team USA's bronze medal win at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in 2024 by recording one assist over five games.
The Blackhawks originally selected Spellacy as their third-round pick (72nd overall) during the NHL Draft in 2024.
