UIC reinforces protection measures for minors in campus programs

The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) has reiterated its dedication to ensuring a safe environment for minors involved in its programs. This applies to both on-campus and off-campus activities, as well as virtual programs. The institution's Protection of Minors policy specifies the steps that university community members, including UIC personnel, volunteers, and contractors, must follow to maintain safety.

According to the university's procedures, adults responsible for supervising minors or those whose roles require close contact with minors must not participate in related university programs without undergoing a criminal background check and a sex offender registry check within the last two years. Additional information about this requirement is available in the procedures.

UIC mandates that units organizing programs involving minors who are not enrolled at the university report these activities using the Protection of Minors Event form provided by the UIC Protection of Minors Office.

Those working with or responsible for minors are expected to adhere to the policy and submit necessary documentation promptly.

As the spring semester begins, everyone is encouraged to watch or review a brief video titled "Protecting Minors on Campus."

For further inquiries, individuals can reach out to UIC’s Protection of Minors Coordinator, Joanna Wolek, via email at uicpom@uic.edu or visit the Protection of Minors webpage.
