The Chicago Blackhawks have announced a trade deal involving defenseman Dmitry Kuzmin, who has been acquired from the Winnipeg Jets. In return, the Blackhawks have sent defenseman Isaak Phillips to the Jets.
Kuzmin, 21, has played 21 games with the Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League during the current season, achieving four points through one goal and three assists. These statistics mark his highest professional career achievements to date. In the previous season, Kuzmin recorded three points in 18 regular-season games with the Moose and nine points over 24 games with the Norfolk Admirals in the East Coast Hockey League.
Kuzmin's international experience includes winning a gold medal at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship Division 1 tournament with Team Belarus alongside Artyom Levshunov, a first-round selection by the Blackhawks in 2024. He also represented Belarus at the 2021 IIHF U18 World Championships.
Originally from Kholstovo, Belarus, Kuzmin was drafted by Winnipeg as their third-round pick (82nd overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Isaak Phillips, aged 23, has participated in three games for Chicago this season and scored one goal. He has also played in 28 AHL games for Rockford IceHogs, where he ranks third among defensemen on his team with eight points from one goal and seven assists.
Phillips hails from Barrie, Ontario and has accumulated experience over 56 career regular-season NHL games with Chicago between 2021-24. His record includes earning a total of 12 points from two goals and ten assists. Additionally, Phillips has achieved notable success in AHL competitions with Rockford over five years and contributed seven points during Calder Cup Playoff appearances.
