Northwestern University's Wirtz Center announces winter theater lineup

Kathleen Hagerty Provost | Northwestern University

The Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts at Northwestern University is presenting a diverse winter theater season. The lineup includes plays, musicals, and dance performances scheduled for February and March on the Evanston campus.

The mainstage season opens on February 7 with Tina Howe's comedy "Museum," which offers an absurdist take on art and humanity. Following this, the Chicago premiere of Gabriel Kahane's musical "February House" will begin on February 21. Set in a Brooklyn boarding house during World War II, it explores the lives of its artistic residents. The winter season concludes with "DanceWorks 2025: signal::transfer" on March 14, featuring innovative dance productions.

Tickets can be purchased through the Wirtz Center website or at their box office located in the Ethel M. Barber Theater lobby.

The full schedule is as follows:

"Museum" by Tina Howe runs from February 7 to 16 at Josephine Louis Theater. Directed by Kathryn Walsh, it unfolds in a contemporary art museum where eccentric characters interact amidst modern culture's absurdities.

"February House," directed by Seth Roseman with music and lyrics by Gabriel Kahane, runs from February 21 to March 2 at Ethel M. Barber Theater. It depicts a bohemian commune led by George Davis that includes figures like poet W.H. Auden and novelist Carson McCullers.

"DanceWorks 2025: signal::transfer," directed by Thomas F. DeFrantz, takes place from March 14 to 16 at Josephine Louis Theater. It features three movements choreographed by visiting artists Joe Bowie, Sankofa Danzafro, and Al Evangelista.

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the Wirtz Center website or contact them directly at their Evanston location.
