Jason J. Czarnezki has been named the new dean of Chicago-Kent College of Law at Illinois Tech, starting June 1, 2025. He transitions from Pace University’s Elisabeth Haub School of Law, where he held roles including associate dean of environmental law programs and strategic initiatives.
Czarnezki is recognized for his commitment to transforming legal education and enhancing community engagement. At Pace University, he led the Environmental Law Program to a top national ranking by U.S. News & World Report through innovation and collaboration. He aims to bring similar advancements to Chicago-Kent, focusing on trial advocacy and intellectual property.
“It’s an honor to join Chicago-Kent College of Law,” Czarnezki stated. He emphasized the school's unique position as the only law school connected to a leading technology university and its potential in preparing students for future legal challenges.
Illinois Tech Provost Kenneth T. Christensen praised Czarnezki's alignment with the university's mission: “His proven track record in building nationally recognized programs will ensure that Chicago-Kent continues to thrive.”
Illinois Tech President Raj Echambadi added, “As an innovative, global thinker, Jason is positioned to empower Chicago-Kent’s students, faculty, and alumni.”
Horace E. Anderson Jr., dean at Pace University’s law school, noted Czarnezki's contributions over 12 years: “Professor Czarnezki’s innovative vision will undoubtedly serve him well in his new role.” Anderson also highlighted potential collaborations between the two institutions.
Before joining Pace University, Czarnezki was involved with Vermont Law School and Marquette University Law School. His academic achievements include international fellowships and affiliations with several prestigious universities worldwide.
Czarnezki holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Uppsala University. His research interests include environmental law and sustainable business strategies.
He succeeds Anita K. Krug as dean of Chicago-Kent College of Law. Krug expanded academic support during her tenure and launched several successful initiatives.
