Jason J. Czarnezki has been appointed as the new dean of Chicago-Kent College of Law at Illinois Institute of Technology, starting June 1, 2025. He comes from Pace University’s Elisabeth Haub School of Law, where he held multiple roles including associate dean of environmental law programs and strategic initiatives.
Czarnezki is known for his leadership in legal education and community engagement. At Pace University, he helped the Environmental Law Program achieve a #1 national ranking according to U.S. News & World Report for four consecutive years and five out of the last six years. His focus on innovation, diversity, and collaboration contributed to this success.

Before joining Pace University, Czarnezki was a professor at Vermont Law School and served as faculty director for the U.S.-China Partnership for Environmental Law. He also taught at Marquette University Law School and was a visiting professor at Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and DePaul University College of Law.
Czarnezki holds degrees from the University of Chicago (B.A., J.D.) and Uppsala University (Ph.D.). His research interests include environmental law policy, food systems policy, sustainable business strategies, technology's impact on climate policy, among others.
He succeeds Anita K. Krug as dean who expanded academic support initiatives during her tenure since 2019.
