Registration for the spring 2025 semester began on November 4. Faculty members are being encouraged to complete their textbook adoptions promptly to ensure availability for students. Timely adoption is crucial, especially for students on agency scholarships and student-athletes who must obtain materials from the campus bookstore.
The Follett Discover tool in Blackboard is available for managing adoptions and re-adopting items from previous terms. For assistance or inquiries regarding textbook orders, faculty can contact bookstore manager John Sublette at 312-413-5500 or j.sublette@follett.com.
Early textbook adoption offers several advantages. It increases buyback value by providing timely course material information, which aids in building a more robust used textbook inventory—a challenge given the declining textbook market. With publishers stocking fewer physical materials due to a shift towards digital resources, there is increased competition among schools for limited stock, making early adoption essential.
Moreover, having all materials available simultaneously enhances the student experience by reducing trips to the bookstore. This practice also aligns with the Higher Education Opportunity Act Textbook Provision.
Faculty members are also encouraged to explore open educational resources for their courses. More information is available on the University Library’s Open Educational Resources website.
